Legend has it that the discoverer Américo Vespucci watched the indigenous people of the New World how they drank the liquid resulting from the maceration of some seeds, fruit of the magical cocoa tree, an extraordinary food. This liquid invigorated them and provided them with a unique energy and natural fertility. Returning from his first trip to the New World, Américo Vespucci brought back a large quantity of these granules. Such was the vigor that it reported to them that they believed they would achieve eternal life, hence the nickname "tree of life". Over time the seeds ended up in a convent of monks. The abbot took great care of them, commissioning other monks and navigators to bring back a large number of them on his return from the New World.
